Brow Lamination
What is eyebrow lamination?
Eyebrow lamination is the perfect brow treatment that aims to enhance the appearance of the eyebrows by manipulating and strategically shaping your natural brow hairs, it tames tough and unruly hairs setting them in place so every hair lies in the same direction, giving them a just combed effect. It involves the use of a series of solutions and techniques to shape and style the eyebrows. After the treatment, your brows will appear thicker, fuller, straighter and combed into the ideal shape. It’s like a keratin treatment for your eyebrows!
It is ideal for those with curly, unruly eyebrow hairs, gappy or sparse brows, and for those who want a standout eyebrow look!
How long does eyebrow lamination last?
The results of an eyebrow lamination treatment can last for up to 6-8 weeks, depending on the natural growth cycle of the eyebrows. This means that the treatment can maintain its effect for several weeks before the eyebrows begin to return to their natural state. Other factors such as your health, hormones and lifestyle can affect how long the lamination will last.
To help prolong the results of eyebrow lamination, follow after care instructions provided by your brow artist.
What are the pros and cons of brow lamination?
Here are some potential pros and cons of brow lamination:
Pros:
Fuller and more defined eyebrows: Brow lamination can help to fill in sparse areas, create a more defined arch, and give the eyebrows a more uniform appearance.
Non-invasive: Unlike other eyebrow treatments such as microblading or tattooing, brow lamination is non-invasive and requires no downtime.
Long-lasting results: The results of brow lamination can last for up to 6-8 weeks, depending on the natural growth cycle of the eyebrows.
Low maintenance: Brow lamination is relatively low maintenance compared to other eyebrow treatments, as it requires no touch-ups or regular appointments.
Cons:
Cost: Brow lamination can be more expensive than other eyebrow treatments such as waxing or threading.
Allergic reactions: Some people may experience allergic reactions to the solutions used in the treatment, which can cause redness, itching, or swelling.
Side effects: Brow lamination can cause some side effects such as dryness, flaking, or breakage of the eyebrow hairs.
Not suitable for everyone: Brow lamination may not be suitable for those with extremely sensitive skin, certain skin conditions, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
It's important to consult with a professional before undergoing any cosmetic treatment to determine if it is right for you and to discuss potential risks and benefits.
Who is not a good candidate for brow lamination?
Brow lamination is generally safe and suitable for most people. However, there are some conditions that may make someone not a good candidate for the treatment, such as:
Allergies: People with allergies to the solutions used in the treatment may experience allergic reactions, such as redness, itching, or swelling.
Skin conditions: People with certain skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis, may experience irritation or inflammation during or after the treatment.
Sensitive skin: People with extremely sensitive skin may be more prone to side effects such as dryness, flaking, or breakage of the eyebrow hairs.
Pregnant or breastfeeding: Pregnant or breastfeeding women may want to avoid the treatment as the effects of the chemicals on a developing fetus or infant are unknown.
Recent eyebrow tinting: People who have recently had their eyebrows tinted should wait at least a week before undergoing brow lamination as the chemicals used in the tinting process can affect the results of the lamination.
It's always a good idea to consult with a professional before undergoing any cosmetic treatment to determine if it is right for you and to discuss potential risks and benefits.
What is the upkeep for a brow lamination?
After getting a brow lamination treatment, it's important to follow some simple aftercare steps to help maintain the results and prolong the effects of the treatment. Here are some tips for upkeep:
Avoid getting the eyebrows wet for at least 24 hours after the treatment. This includes swimming, saunas, steam rooms, and other activities that could cause the eyebrows to become wet.
Avoid using oil-based products on the eyebrows, as these can break down the solutions used in the treatment and cause the eyebrows to lose their shape and definition.
Avoid rubbing or scratching the eyebrows, as this can cause irritation and potentially damage the hairs.
Regularly brush and groom the eyebrows to help maintain their shape and definition.
Use a brow serum or oil to help nourish and strengthen the hairs and prevent breakage.
Avoid tweezing or waxing the eyebrows for at least 24 hours after the treatment to allow the hairs to settle into their new shape.
Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen on the eyebrows to protect them from UV rays.
Schedule touch-up appointments every 6-8 weeks to maintain the results of the treatment.
Following these simple steps can help to ensure that your brow lamination treatment lasts as long as possible and that your eyebrows stay looking their best.
Are there risks with brow lamination?
Like any cosmetic procedure, there are potential risks associated with brow lamination. Here are some of the possible risks:
Allergic reactions: Some people may experience an allergic reaction to the solutions used in the treatment, which can cause redness, itching, or swelling.
Skin irritation: The solutions used in the treatment can cause skin irritation, dryness, or flakiness, especially in people with sensitive skin.
Eyebrow damage: Over-processing the eyebrows or leaving the solutions on for too long can cause the eyebrow hairs to become brittle, dry, or damaged.
Uneven results: If the solutions are not applied evenly or the eyebrows are not combed into the correct shape, the results may appear uneven or unnatural.
Eyebrow hair loss: In rare cases, brow lamination can cause eyebrow hair loss, especially if the treatment is repeated too frequently or the solutions are left on for too long.
It's important to choose a reputable and experienced technician who uses high-quality products and follows proper safety protocols to minimize the risk of complications. Always do your research and ask for recommendations before undergoing any cosmetic procedure. Additionally, if you experience any unusual symptoms or side effects after the treatment, seek medical attention immediately.
Do brows go back to normal after lamination?
Yes, brows do go back to normal after lamination, typically within 6-8 weeks after the treatment. The effects of brow lamination are temporary and gradually fade as the eyebrow hairs grow out and return to their natural shape and position. The speed at which the brows go back to normal can vary depending on factors such as hair growth rate and the individual's natural hair texture and thickness.
Generally, brow lamination results last for 6-8 weeks, after which time the treatment will need to be repeated to maintain the desired look.
It's important to note that the long-term effects of repeated brow lamination treatments are not fully understood, and over-processing the eyebrows can potentially cause damage or hair loss. Therefore, it's important to space out treatments appropriately and follow proper aftercare instructions to minimize the risk of complications and maintain healthy, beautiful brows.
Why are my eyebrows falling out after lamination?
Eyebrow hairs falling out after lamination is not a common occurrence, but it can happen in rare cases. Here are some reasons why it might be happening:
Overprocessing: If the solutions used in the lamination process are left on for too long, it can cause the hair to become weak and brittle, which can lead to hair loss.
Allergic reactions: In rare cases, people may have an allergic reaction to the solutions used in the lamination process, which can cause the hair to fall out.
Incorrect aftercare: Not following proper aftercare instructions, such as avoiding oil-based products or rubbing the eyebrows vigorously, can cause the hair to become weak and fall out.
Existing hair damage: If the eyebrow hairs were already damaged or weak before the lamination treatment, the process can further exacerbate the issue and cause hair loss.
Underlying health conditions: Certain health conditions, such as thyroid disorders, can cause hair loss, and the lamination process may aggravate the issue.
If you are experiencing significant eyebrow hair loss after lamination, it's important to consult with a professional to determine the cause and develop an appropriate treatment plan. In some cases, the hair may naturally regrow over time, but in other cases, more aggressive treatment may be necessary.
Which is better, brow lamination or tint?
Whether brow lamination or tint is better for you depends on your individual preferences and needs.
Brow lamination is a great option if you want to achieve a fuller, more defined look for your eyebrows. The process involves chemically relaxing the eyebrow hairs and setting them into a new, more flattering shape. This can create a natural-looking, feathered effect that lasts for several weeks.
Brow tinting, on the other hand, involves using a semi-permanent dye to enhance the color and definition of the eyebrows. This is a good option if you have naturally light or sparse eyebrows and want to make them appear more defined and full.
If you have naturally thick eyebrows with a good shape, you may not need brow lamination and could benefit more from brow tinting to enhance the natural color and shape of your brows. However, if your eyebrows are sparse or uneven, brow lamination could be a better choice to create a more defined and symmetrical look.
Ultimately, the best option for you depends on your individual preferences and needs. You could also consider combining both treatments for maximum effect, such as getting a brow lamination to create a defined shape and then tinting the brows to enhance the color and definition.
Do laminated brows look shiny?
Laminated brows may look shiny immediately after the treatment, but this should fade after a few hours. The shiny appearance is typically due to the setting solution used during the treatment, which can give the eyebrows a glossy, wet look.
After the treatment, it's important to avoid getting the eyebrows wet or applying any oily products for at least 24-48 hours to allow the solution to fully set and for the brows to settle into their new shape. Once this period has passed, the shiny appearance should diminish, and the brows should look more natural.
It's important to note that the overall appearance of laminated brows can vary depending on factors such as the individual's hair texture, thickness, and natural shape. While some people may achieve a natural-looking, feathery effect, others may have a more dramatic or glossy look. It's important to discuss your desired results with a professional technician and have realistic expectations for the outcome of the treatment.
What is the process like?
Once you’re comfortably seated in the treatment chair, your brow artist will begin cleansing and preparing brows for the process.
Your brow hair will be combed up and secured using gentle skin glue.
Then the first serum will be applied and left on for 9-14 minutes depending on the brow hair quality (thick or thin).
The first serum will then be removed and the second serum will be applied and left on for 5-10 minutes.
The second serum will then be removed, and tint will be applied at this point if requested. The tint will remain on for about 15 minutes.
At this point, tint (if used) will be removed, and one final serum will be applied to nourish the brows.
Finally, your tech will shape your brows using tweezers. One final brush of the brows, and you’re done!
The entire lamination process will take about 60 minutes.
